Melbourne, Australia:  A new fitness trend is about to sweep Australia. It’s MMA, but not as you know it – an immersive and transformational twenty-week mixed martial arts training programme taught in-gym to people who want to radically improve their mind and body.

The new Alta programme is part of the fast-growing, yet unpenetrated Combat Sports Training segment of the fitness market. The twenty-week course allows participants to learn multiple martial arts disciplines, guided and supported by expert coaches who tailor their training.

AFLW stars Katie Brennan, Kate Hore and Ellie McKenzie were put through their paces on the banks of the Yarra River under the guidance of coach John Kavanagh who is in Melbourne to launch the programme.

The course promises a total transformation like no other to help you find your inner warrior and take on any challenge in life. Besides the obvious physical and fitness improvements, the mental and emotional benefits of such intensive training are designed to improve confidence and self-belief.

The twenty-week programme is set to be rolled out across gyms in Melbourne in March.

John Kavanagh, mixed martial arts coach and brand ambassador commented: “Alta is tough. You need to give all of yourself to it and be pushed where you think your limit is – and you’ll be surprised with just how much further you can go. Once you realise your limit is self-imposed, everything becomes possible.”

“I’ve been teaching MMA for years, and despite the popular image of the sport, it’s not about the fight.  It is about developing a mental strength that helps you stay resilient and confident no matter what life throws your way.”

Alta is a new in-gym training programme, with predictions it will resonate with Australians in a similar way to other fitness offerings such as F45 or CrossFit.  The brand believes it will reach more than four million customers by 2025 – a conservative target considering the active MMA fan base of 575 million people worldwide – through its in-gym programme and soon to be released at-home training Academies.

Nick Langton, Alta Founder and Co-CEO commented: “We’re an Australian start-up with big dreams globally, serious backing, and some world-leading ambassadors to propel us forward into the future.  We’re offering Australians a once in a lifetime opportunity to train under some of the world’s best coaches before having the opportunity to compete in your own amateur mixed martial arts match, should they choose.”

The MMA audience is the youngest and most underserved in sport.  There are almost 600 million global fans with heavily funded professional leagues driving fan growth – but there are few companies that convert ‘fandom’ into ‘participation’.

It’s led Alta to predict they’ll continue to convert a steady stream of Australian MMA fans into participants. Interestingly, the course is increasingly popular amongst older demographic and females, with 36% of Australian sign-ups to date being women and a significant customer cohort in their forties and fifties.

Alta has evolved from a training programme called Wimp 2 Warrior, which was founded with a single gym in 2012 based in Sydney, to create a pathway for beginners to experience the benefits of mixed martial arts all around the world, with over 100 gyms now part of the Alta global community.
